I just got though ironing 5 pairs of linen slacks. I was going to bring them to the dry cleaners to press becuase I couldn't get the wrinkles out to wear to work. I dreaded spending the money on that. I figured I would give the iron a shot. In one second I flet the difference, I had a beautiful professional looking crease, with one swipe on linen and with steam. I gave the pockets and xtra burst of steam, and I was done, like a handkerchief, I didn't want to stop, and I hate to iron. You can not go wrong with this item.

I originally purchased the Steamfast SF-435W travel steamer and found it very powerful, easy to use, and handy for straightening clothes and enhancing the curls in my hair. (This was discovered by accident as ringlets formed while I steamed my clothes. You have to be careful around the skin and eyes, but I highly recommend this steamer for curls as well as clothes.) The Steamfast is a terrific steamer and I now keep it in my bathroom for daily use.

Since we are traveling to Europe soon and the Steamfast does not support 220V, I purchased the Conair GS-1 travel steamer (the green and white one) as a substitute. The Conair heats up nearly as quickly as the Steamfast but does not have the directed force of steam that the Streamfast has. Steam just sort of comes out of the Conair. This is likely due to the 800W vs 400W advantage that the Steamfast has over the Conair. Also, the Conair seems flimsy in comparison. For example, the water access on the Conair involves twisting the entire top half off of the unit. If it ever breaks, you can throw the Conair away. The Steamfast has a black cap to the water area and you simply remove the cap (which I imagine could be replaced if needed, though not likely.) It also seems that hot water could spill out of the Conair, whereas the Steamfast has the upwardly angled steam spout, making accidental spillage less likely.

If you are comparing the Steamfast to the Conair, I would definitely recommend the Steamfast as superior.

This iron is my 5th buy in like 3 months. Others I've purchased have leaked within a week or less, so they were promptly returned to the store. Out of an $80 iron, a $50 iron and this $30 iron goes to show you money doesn't necessarily mean quality. I would definitely recommend this iron. It's heavy and feels durable, I attempted to return it because my daughter dropped it on the floor , but was unable to they didn't carry it anymore and a piece of plastic cracked off of it, but it STILL works wonderfully. So im keeping this one and thank goodness Amazon sells it now

I replaced a much more expensive "broken" iron with this reasonably priced one, still own another heavy, commercial grade iron with water supply that is fussy to use but has been a necessity in my production line of knits. I am very content with the variable controls, the quantity and quality of steam quickly and conveniently generated by this one, in spite of the fact that it is pleasingly lightweight. I also like the more unusual shape for use in the kind of ironing I do. It is quickly becoming my convenient go to for more uses than expected, turned out to be a very good choice. On a high steam setting water tank needs refilling frequently.

I am a quilter and I go through alot of irons.(at least 1 a year) The price of this iron was great, it feels good in your hand, holds a good amount of water and steams real well. Its hard to find an iron that doesn't turn itself off when not being used, this one is no exception to that, but it comes back on quickly and heats back up fast. All in all Its a good iron. I don't know about longevity yet, time will tell!!

I haven't been happy with any iron I have owned until now. This is the perfect iron. It is simple to use and has a cord that works well for both left and right-handed people. The steam has many settings or can be turned off altogether. It heats up very quickly. I am a knitter. The settings are great for blocking touchy fabrics. The price is so reasonable, I think I might buy a couple as gifts for people I know who could really use the perfect iron too.

My old Rowenta got heavy duty usage and lasted just over 10 years. The only problem it had was with the cord and that is being repaired. To cover me and have a backup iron, I got this new one. To prevent spitting and leaking - Only use generic drinking water like you would get in any store. Not distilled, not and super duper brand, just plain old bottled drinking water. Next, make sure the heat setting and steam setting match. Don't select a low heat and high steam or it will spit. Other than that, this is by far, the best and most effective iron on the market.

(What's this?) I'm a quilter so my iron gets a lot of use. By "a lot", I mean 2-3 hours a day, 5-6 days a week. My last Panasonic is still working after two and a half years, even after mistreatment. I don't empty the water after each use and I've gotten the sole plate sticky (that dang fusible web!).

This one is as easy to use as the other one. Manufacturers have finally figured out to place the fill opening so the iron can be filled vertically without spilling. It glides smoothly over fabric, something you'd take for granted until you had an iron that doesn't.

The only thing I don't like is that (compared to my other Panasonic), there's a "wobble" when I place it upright. I think it's because this iron is a bit large for its base, and the balance doesn't seem quite right. Another minor quibble has nothing to do with performance: Manufacturers need to stop putting a plastic film on the sole plate. It's too easy to turn the iron on without looking at the sole plate, which I did. I'm thinking "What's that smell?" The film curled but didn't melt, so I didn't have to clean melted gunk off the plate.

I like the retractable cord, and the dial is easy to read and in an accessible position. The water empties without mess. I'll edit this review after I've used the iron awhile longer.

This iron heats very quickly, has good steam, and glides well. I love the retractable cord - have not had one of those before, and it's a nice plus. I haven't bothered with the removable water tank - it just seems like extra work to take it off and put it back on - I'm not sure what the point is. I also like the bright green color. My 25+ -year-old iron was beige. This is much cheerier. There is only one thing I don't like, and I guess I'll get used to it. The dial that turns the iron on and off and sets the temperature is under the handle and, as a result, is very awkward to turn and even more difficult to see. My ancient iron had a sliding thing up on top for off/on and temp, and it was much easier to use. So far that's my only quibble (and the reason for the 4 rather than 5 rating), but it's not a crucial issue.

P.S. in August 2009. This baby is tough! My ironing board stays up most of the time. Twice since buying this iron, I have accidentally knocked it off the ironing board while it was not in use, and it has bounced several times on the hardwood floor before coming to rest. Both times I cringed and figured it was done for, but both times it's survived the abuse with no symptoms of damage. Yes, I'm trying to remember to set it down flat when it's cool.
